The Sound of Silence

Nov 20, 2006 @ 10:07 am by Ron

“There are times when silence has the loudest voice”

~~~ Leroy Brownlow
Do you remember that great song by Simon and Garfunkel, “The Sound of Silence”? The opening lyrics are…
“Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.”
Every sound we hear, no matter how soft or how loud, will arise out of the silence. And when the sound is finished, it will disappear back into the silence. Silence is always there — even when there is sound, the silence is hiding right under the sound, and will be there again when the sound is gone. Let that sink in for a moment… silence isn’t really the absence of sound … rather it has just as much depth, power and weight as sound.
Taking the time to experience silence calms the mind and rejuvenates the body. Silence is the void where we can hear the many sounds that we often ignore – the voice of our intuition telling us the truth, the sound of the breeze blowing, the hum of the radiator, the ticking of the clock, and the sounds we make just because we’re alive.
One of my favorite ways to experience silence is when I first awaken. It’s before the rest of the world has come alive. The lights are still off (“Hello darkness my old friend”), there’s no radio or TV playing — all is silence.
Try it yourself. Be still and simply listen. You may hear your heartbeat or your breath, but keep your attention tuned to the silence that surrounds you. Stay this way for as long as you can, and allow the sound of silence to penetrate your body until it moves into your core. Feel the gentle, pulsing waves of silence and allow it to cleanse you. Five minutes of communing with silence can leave you feeling vibrant and connected to the universe.
Another way to experience the sounds of silence is through meditation. This is something that I do most every day. You can read an article that I have published about meditation at this website: http://www.jmorganmag.com/EsotericCorner.html
Another great time to experience the power of silence is at night before you fall asleep. Once you learn to love the silence you’ll find that you can find it even in the midst of your daily activities.
“See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence…we need silence to be able to touch souls.”
~~~ Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Silence is always present. You can experience it if you let it in. Usually we tend to ignore silence — or we feel uncomfortable when silence happens. How often have you been with someone and noticed that it got really quiet and had the overwhelming feeling that you had to say something to fill the void? The next time that happens, just let the silence be there. It’s always there anyways — it’s vast, it’s potent, and it’s available for you to step into any time you choose — you never know what you may find in “The Sound of Silence.”

“In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth.”

How’s Your Ego Doing?

Nov 17, 2006 @ 08:15 am by Ron

“A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success.”

~~~ Joyce Brothers
During the day today I was looking for some information about how we see ourselves — how our individuality determines how we think — and I came across some interesting thoughts about ego. I don’t admit that I understand all of this, but I would like to share these thoughts with you.
When do we begin to realize our individuality? I guess you could say that it starts the moment we’re born — when we experience that first separation — when we suddenly are on our own and no longer physically connected to another. Each of us is unique, not only in appearance or personality, but in thought as well.
Our individuality is what is called our ego. It is the “I” that we understand ourselves to be. It’s our concept of our “self”. The ego, in many instances, controls how we think, how we act, and how we perceive reality because it’s through the ego that we understand our experiences. In a nutshell, the ego is that part of our consciousness that keeps driving our feelings of separateness and uniqueness. It can lead us to be selfish — it can make us conceited — it can make us feel isolated. On the flip side,however, it can do wonders in helping us to develop a healthy self-confidence and self love.
While it’s easy to blame ego for our pridefulness, our arrogance, our self-importance or other shortcomings, ego also helps us to remain focused, and to be more balanced in our ethical beliefs. Ego is neither good nor bad. Because we are unique individuals, we have the ability to make changes in ourselves — to be more flexible — and still maintain confidence in our abilities.
Most importantly, however, the ego needs to be tamed.
We need to develop an awareness of our ego and its desires, distractions, fears, and compulsions. Once we gain a better understanding of how our ego works, we can begin to move away from the pridefulness — the need to always compete. We can learn that even though we make mistakes and have failures in life, we can still accept ourselves as valuable. In the Buddhist tradition, meditation is one path to understanding the ego’s motives and methods before taming its impulses. If your ego has become a hindrance, it can be helpful to explore the concept of oneness or selflessness, which can help reconcile overactive feelings of individuality, fear, and isolation.
“One may understand the cosmos, but never the ego; the self is more distant than any star.”
~~~ G. K. Chesterton

One of the most difficult things we face as unique individuals is the ability to see how we are a part of the whole — and to seeing how we are integrated with the universe as a whole. We tend to label and judge the people and things around us because they, too, are individuals that appear to be disconnected — different — from us. Once we learn to tame our ego, and to realize that we are a part of all that is, we will have taken a giant step toward learning how to love, not only ourselves, but also the many-faceted individuals with whom we share this universe.

“Every man and woman alive is gifted by God in some special way. People who have a self-image of worth are going to see value in what they do. This is the attitude that motivates them to be and to do their best. It’s a drive that comes from within people.”

~~~ William Walton
“AMAZING stuff!! I’ve been doing HEAVY DUTY research on the power of the mind these past few years to the extent that when I hear testimonials of people saying “this is unlike anything I’ve come across before”,… I see those people as Rookies. Napoleon Hill, Joe Vitale, Tony Robbins, Shakti Gawain, Joseph Murphy, Al Koran, Paul McKenna, Louise Hay, Wallace D Wattles, can’t hold a candle to the info in here. Affirmations, visualizations in other books miss the point…RESULTS! This is as FAR towards spirituality as you can get while not falling into the category that you must be content with whatever you have. Almost every other source I read imposed limitations which I never liked. This E-book allows ANYTHING and links up ALL the loopholes. There can be nothing more for me to search for. I always knew I was Godly in nature. Just needed confirmation and proof. I remember turning away from the screen… laughing and thinking… OH MY GOD….THAT’S IT! MY GOD, THAT’S IT…WOW!”
Do You Have a Bad Apple In Your Bunch?
Nov 15, 2006 @ 09:40 am by Ron
“Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow – that is patience.”
~~~ Saint Augustine

There aren’t many days where we don’t have to interact with people who are negative, right? In fact, are there any days where that doesn’t happen? It seems that wherever we are there is always one “bad apple spoiling the bunch”.

We’ve all experienced the loud and crass person who can disrupt any peaceful situation. A disruptive worker can have a major effect on their colleagues’ professional lives. A family member who is pessimistic or highly critical may destroy the morale of other family members. One “bad apple” in your personal life can be a potent distraction that makes it difficult to focus on the blessings you’ve been given and the people who love you.

It seems that there will always be people in our lives that take it upon themselves to create chaos, cause disruption, encourage hopelessness, criticize everything you do, and act as though they are always right — even though they are themselves miserable in their own lives.

And, isn’t it also true that our first reaction when we come into contact with these people is to show our anger and frustration with their antics?

However, bad apples only have the power to turn our lives sour if we let them.

“All human wisdom is summed up in two words – wait and hope”

~~~ Alexandre Dumas Père
If you can exercise patience and choose not to respond to their words or actions, you will significantly limit the effect they are able to have on you and your environment. You can also try to encourage the “bad apple” to change their ways by showing your own good behavior as an example. Oftentimes, the person behaving badly is only looking for attention. They can often be influenced to behave differently when they are exposed to positive attention.
It is a natural reaction to disassociate ourselves from negative people. There may be times, however, where it would be worthwhile to consider why they are acting the way they do. Understanding their motivation can help you see that bad apples are not necessarily bad people. Though bad apples are a fact of life, minimizing the impact you allow them to have upon you is empowering because you are not letting anyone else affect the quality of your own experiences.
And, you never know, there may be a really good person under all that negativity.
“Patience is the companion of wisdom.”
“Thank you for your amazing Manifesting Program! With so many wonderful exercises it is hard to pinpoint exactly what turned my life around, but I get the sense that after using the manifesting mantra, “Quiet mind, open heart, relaxed being,” I felt a tremendous shift in my awareness and consciousness that lead to some very wonderful manifesting in my life. Within the last two months of starting all of my daily meditation with this “magical mantra” I have manifested a new home, which me and my kids love, my list of clients has tripled–tripling my income, I have gotten thousands of dollars in referral fees and finally, my novel which had sat dormant for two years has began selling like hot cakes again online. Perhaps the most important aspect of using your program is the confidence, faith and inner peace which permeates every area of my life. I wake up every day, feeling plugged in and connected to my source and I have never been happier or more fulfilled with what I now create. Thank you so much for your program it is truly a blessing to the planet and anyone who is fortunate enough to have it!” ~ Sincerely, Eric S Lee, Colorado
