Does anyone remember that song, “My Sweet Embraceable You”, or am I entering a generation gap with the readers here? I don’t remember all the verses, but the chorus went like this…
Embrace me,
My sweet embraceable you.
Embrace me,
You irreplaceable you.

After the article on the 29th, (I’m even using the same picture today) I feel some need to keep writing about all those things that can make us feel good about ourselves. And, remember, how you feel has a lot to do with how you’ll think — and how you think and feel will have a lot to do with how your life will go.
How often do you complain about yourself? How often do you catch yourself putting yourself down? Do you forget that you are unique? You are one of a kind, you know. As the song says, you are irreplaceable. There is no one else like you in the entire universe. You are magnificent — and you should acknowledge that in yourself. One way to do this is to NOT compare yourself with other people.
It’s our nature to want to see how we measure up to others. However, have you noticed that when you’re making those comparisons that it’s usually with someone you think is better than you — or who has more of something you would like to have? What a waste of time that is, don’t you think? There is no one like you and that makes you incomparable.

I think we do that because it’s easier than taking responsibility for how we’re living up to our own standards. Each of us has special gifts. We are all here in this life for specific reasons — reasons that are unique to us. My reason for being here is different than yours. I’m here to learn certain lessons so that I can fulfill my life’s purpose — as are you — only your lessons aren’t precisely the same as mine. When you truly think about that, you come to realize that comparing yourself to anyone else isn’t too wise, since you don’t have any idea what they’re here to learn or what purpose in life they need to fulfill. All that worrying about how you’re matching up is a huge waste of your energy.
Instead, why not accept who you are? Why not learn to appreciate those special attributes and talents that are unique to you? Once you can learn to realize that every single person is “on their own unique trip” — that their “trip” is different from your “trip” — you’re a lot less likely to be focusing so much on what other people are doing. Take a good look and realize that your uniqueness is of great value. When you value yourself, you will bring out the best of yourself.
When you bring out the best of yourself, you’ll feel good — you’ll think good thoughts — and you’ll attract more of the same to yourself.
