Big Picture — “To Change Your World, Simply Change Yourself”

“”The good you find in others, is within you as well. The faults you find in others, are your faults as well. After all, to recognize something on your outer world you must have a reference point on your inner world. The world around you is a reflection, a mirror showing you the person you are. To change your world, simply change yourself. See the best in others, and you will be at your best. Give to others, and you give to yourself. Love others, and you will be loved. Seek to understand, and you will be understood. Listen, and your voice will be heard.
Teach, and you will learn.”

~~~ Author Unknown
Take just another moment and read the quote above once more. I got this in my email this morning just as you see it here. The author is unknown, but it could, and probably should, become the mantra for all of us.
I devoted the last two articles for the blog to The Earth Charter. I wanted you to see that this wonderful work is continuing every day and it’s work that we all need to be doing as well. You can learn much more about The Earth Charter by visiting their web site at: http://www.earthcharter.org. You can read the actual Charter there and you’ll see the work of The Earth Charter in action today.
It’s up to us to make sure this work doesn’t go to waste.
Top of the World Big Picture
About two weeks ago I commented that it was past the time when we needed to get more and more people talking about the “Big Picture” — that we needed to be the ones to continue those discussions that were begun at the original Earth Charter meetings. From the start, those discussions were, and still are, chaotic, and oftentimes contentious.
The one thing that does stand out whenever you talk about the issues of our world today is that, despite the differences we all have about how to go about this, we all want the same things. Things like healthy children, families, and communities. Things like wanting to be in a healthy environment where we can live in peace and cooperation. And the thing that always comes through is that these desires are never selfish. Everyone who is talking seriously about the “Big Picture” wants these things not only for themselves but for everyone on this planet.
In my past I’ve had the chance to be in several different countries. These travels were a long time ago and they were during my days in the service during the Korean war. During these times in different cultures, the one aspect that has stayed with me all these years is that, with very few exceptions, we are a lot more alike than we realize. Most of us want to breathe clean air and drink clean water. We want tasty nutritious food uncontaminated with toxins. We want healthy, happy children, loving families, and a caring community with a beautiful healthy natural environment. We want meaningful work, a living wage, and security in our old age. We want a say in the decisions our government makes. We want world peace.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t find these expectations to be excessive.
Do you??
I’m going to cut this a little short this week, and throughout the month of August, as I’m participating in “The Thirty-Day Challenge” with some of my friends from various places around the world. This is a challenge to learn how to do a better job of doing marketing on the Internet. If any of you are interested in this sort of project, just go to: The Thirty Day Challenge to learn more. We’re just 6 days into it so there’s still time to get in. Let me know if you do! I belong to a great team.
I’m not done with talking about the Big Picture, so come back next week when this important discussion will continue. Invite your friends. We need many more people to be listening and sharing.
I’d love to hear your comments on this. At the very end of this post (after the commercials and the tags) you should see a place where you can leave your comment. It will be a link that says “No Comments” — or “Comments”. Let me hear from you. Thanks.
I meditate every day to help keep me sane in this crazy world we live in. Those glimpses we get of peace, love, acceptance and happiness when we’re meditating will soon grow into more than glimpses if we keep practicing. Keep those feelings alive. A meditation can be as simple as one, deep, conscious breath. When something happens in one of your moments to cause you to suffer, just stop and take one of those breaths and remember, “This too shall pass!” Another thing that is wonderful, especially at this time of year, is to have a fresh flower where you work. Just stop from time-to-time and look at it — don’t label it — don’t judge it — just be with it for a couple of moments. It really does work. I’m looking at mine as I write this.
Namaste!
I share these words for you in closing — remember these words …
“Be happy now, my dear friends. Today is all we have. Be good to one another. Take comfort in whatever spirituality you are so inclined (or not), and learn to be happy despite your circumstances. Follow your path; pursue your dreams. Work hard, love your family be generous and forgiving. Do it today, while you still have the flicker of life, for one day your own candle will dim.”
You are special — and you are loved. You are the greatest gift you can be.
Shanti … (A sanscrit word meaning, “Let there be Peace. Peace, beautiful Peace. Peace within, Peace without. Peace in this world. Peace for all beings.”)
“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”
~~~ Buddha
