Service With a Smile
“I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”~~~ Albert Schweitzer
When I starting thinking about what I would write today, one of the items in the news kept popping into my mind. That was the passing of Molly Ivins. What a gift she was to her own community and to the community of all of us who admired her devotion to her country and her courage to speak out for her beliefs. She was the epitome of service. Thanks to her passion, her insight, and her devotion to all that is right and good, those of us who knew of her are so much the better.

Thinking about Molly Ivins makes me want to say a few things about service — about living our lives in a way that is harmonious, supportive and helpful, not only to people, but also to all the creatures and plant life on this earth. The service that Molly Ivins performed was her way of being a good citizen of this world, and of helping the rest of us to cut through all the political nonsense in her own satirical, passionate, honest way. She discovered that it was good to help others. She did this without expecting anything in return — she did this only because she knew it was needed by all of us.
There are so many ways we can be of service in our communities. Taking the time to volunteer for something you feel passionate about — being a mentor to our youth — cleaning up the roadside where you live — serving food at a local shelter — when you see someone who looks dejected or stressed, give that person a nice smile — these are just a few of many examples.
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”~~~ Anne Frank
During the past few days, there has been new awareness in the world about global warming (thank goodness!). There are so many ways you can serve the world with this — changing your lightbulbs to the energy efficient type — turning off lights when they’re not needed — walking instead of driving whenever you can — organizing protests against major polluters in your community — and encouraging your elected people to pass legislation that are aimed at reducing greenhouse gasses.
Even little things can help you to give more of yourself — think about the impact if we all picked up the trash we see on the street. How about throwing wildflower seeds onto a vacant lot in your neighborhood? Wouldn’t that brighten up the lives of those living around there — and also do good things for the birds and insects.
When you sit down for meditation, ask for guidance about what you can do to be of service. Pay attention to how you feel and look for signals that will help you find your way to help. If you have your mind on this, ways to be of service will come into your life. Giving something of yourself is the greatest gift.
“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”~~~ Albert Einstein

Dear Friends,
On January 23, 2007, I had the good fortune to be on a phone conversation with Neale Donald Walsch. What an inspiring interview this was with this best-selling author of the “Conversations With God” series of books. Maybe you’ve heard about him or his books. I’ll bet many of you have.
Neale Donald Walsch never wanted his life story to become a movie — but now it has — and it will be the featured film in the February 2007 DVD for the members of the Spiritual Cinema Circle, of which I am one. I encourage you to join me and become a member today so that you can have this wonderful film to keep and to share with your family and friends — CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD.
(In my post on Wednesday, I indicated that the first month of membership in the Spiritual Cinema Circle is free — you only have to pay the postage. That has changed since I wrote you about that that — the deal is even better for February, 2007. Because the movie for February is CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD., the producers of the film have asked the folks at Spiritual Cinema Circle to not offer it for free, rather to add another great DVD for all new members for this month only. The DVD will be SOULMATES, a collection of 6 short films about the magic of relationships and the healing ability of an open heart. So, for February, 2007, you’ll get 10 great independent films instead of the usual four films. The membership fee will be only $21 plus shipping and handling. Sorry for the mixup. I look forward to having you join me in this amazing membership.
Neale Donald Walsch didn’t “ask” to write a book, let alone have a movie made about his life. He certainly had no intention of writing 22 books, or becoming the New York Times best-selling author of the “Conversations with God” series. Neale Donald Walsch was just a man down on his luck, out of answers, and in desperate need of help, who cried out to God.
And God answered.
In what became a series of late night “conversations,” God revealed himself to Neale in an utterly earth shattering way. Walsch posed an endless stream of questions about life’s mysteries and uncertainties, and just like that, God illuminated the answers, one by one, to all of Walsch’s desperate cries. Walsch filled dozens and dozens of legal pads recording these conversations, and their messages became the basis for an internationally acclaimed book series that has sold over 7 million copies and been translated into 34 languages, and now –— a major feature film — CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD.
CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD is an original production of The Spiritual Cinema Circle, a DVD club that delivers inspiring and uplifting films – features, shorts, and documentaries – directly to your door. The Circle finds fascinating films from festivals around the world…films that will open your heart, stir your soul, and expand your mind.
Now, members of The Circle are receiving CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD. as part of the February 2007 DVD which also includes three outstanding short films. For a limited time, new subscribers to The Circle can receive a free trial membership (you pay a minimal shipping fee) by visiting: http://www.spiritualcinemacircle.com/.
If there ever was a great time to do this, it’s today.
Shanti,
Ron
