Over these past days the thoughts of peace were so prevalent in my mind. It seemed as though I was getting a message from the universe to devote more of my writing to that subject. This thinking process led me to also wonder about how to determine whether or not such focused thought was a sign from the universe.

I do believe that the universe will often relay messages to us through signs. I also believe that we’re often much to busy to stop and notice a sign when it’s given to us. We use prayer and many forms of meditation to ask the universe for guidance, yet it often happens that we don’t see the response that’s hidden in a sign. It would be good to be able to learn the subtle language of signs so that we can know better how to proceed with our lives.

Have we been given the power to connect with and communicate with the universe — with God? I believe we have and I believe that we can learn to listen and learn to know what to look for in these communications.

We have to be willing to open our hearts and minds to the universe in order to see and correctly interpret a sign. Sometimes we’re waiting for an angel to appear or for a spirit guide to make some command in a loud voice. I suppose that could happen — and maybe it has at times — but I have a feeling that most signs are more subtle and may look like things we see every day.

What about interesting encounters with strangers? Have you ever had the experience of someone stopping you on the street for some reason just as you were about to step in front of a moving car? What about a song getting lodged in your mind? Have you ever had certain numbers begin to show up at random? (I know, it makes you think you should go play the lottery, but if you’ve tried that, you probably were disappointed.) Maybe those numbers meant something else. What about vivid dreams? Could they be signs from the universe? What about certain objects showing up in your life? What about phrases that seem to jump out of a book you’re reading?

A sign may be a direct answer to one of your questions. Other signs may point you in the right direction, or warn you of some impending difficulties, or show you a different way. If you want the universe to send you a sign, tell it that you’re ready and willing to accept its guidance.

I know, I haven’t truly answered the question of how to you tell if it’s a sign or just a common occurrence? I’m not sure I know the answer. I do know that not everything you hear or see is going to be a sign. I do believe, however, that if you’re open to the truth that the universe will send you the answers to your questions in the form of signs, that you will find those signs easier to recognize. Listen to your intuition. Be open. Know that a sign can mean many things to different people, and only you can decipher if a sign’s meaning is for you.

If you will stay open to this truth — if you will listen to your intuition — if you are receptive and patient — if you will stay connected to the universe — to God — if you will follow the guidance in these signs — the universe — God — will send more of them your way.
